Toby Keith And Family Win Wrongful Death Suit
Toby Keith and his family won a $2.8 million judgment in a wrongful death suit filed after an accident in which his father, Hubert “H.K.” Covel was killed, according to The Tennessean.
Covel was killed in March 2001 when his truck was struck by a bus owned by Elias and Pedro Rodriguez, who were in the bus at the time. The Rodriguez's bus had been inspected in November 2000 and were told it was “urgently” in need of brake work. That work reportedly was never done. Also, the Rodriguezes had hired a driver who did not have a commercial license and who was not trained to drive the bus.
A jury in McClain County, OK, found that the Rodriguezes were guilty of wrongful death and negligence. The unanimous verdict is the single biggest jury verdict in the history of the county.
